Our History
In January 1998, TRI's Executive Director,
Derek Sweetman, founded OJPCR: The Online Journal of Peace
and Conflict Resolution to address the lack of free-of-charge access to
academic resources in the field of peace studies and conflict resolution.
From the significant positive response to
OJPCR, it became clear that there was both a need and a desire for materials of
this kind, especially in a globally accessible, free-of-charge format.
This led to the creation of TRI in January
1999. It immediately took over publication of OJPCR.
In May of 1999, TRI launched its website,
www.trinstitute.org, the hub of its information- and resource-generation
activities. Since May, the site has received visitors from over 100 countries.
In June 1999, TRI was granted 501(c)(3)
nonprofit status by the Internal Revenue Service. |
